What's with Craig's List? A brilliant idea never fully developed...full of spam, can't find what you are looking for...it's a mess! And worst of all, it appears that most of the technology was invested to prevent you from posting the same ad on multiple Craig's List sites...because, as the site states, their research shows that their readers would rather not see the same ads listed on other city pages...makes sense, I guess...
Until you have an apartment for rent that doesn't geographically fit into any of their city listings and could and should be listed in 3 of their sites to reach people most interested in the area....BUT NO, Craig's List will only allow you to post it to one of their sites and is actually using some pretty sophisticated technology to prevent you from listing it on more than one at the same time. While I've successfully outsmarted it by using different email addresses and changing the description of the ad a few times, they are getting increasingly more savvy and it is getting harder and harder.
What's with Craig's List....Ironically, I'd happily pay if they offered such a listing service but they don't. Is Craig that well off that he just doesn't care to make more money or to improve the site? I'll bet it won't be long before someone else takes over this valuable space....
UPDATE: Seems I'm not the only one with a problem with Craig's List...I just recieved my September edition of WIRED and who's on the cover...Craig! Yes, they state "CraigsList is firmly stuck in 1999, just the way Craig and Co. like it" You can check it out here... http://www.wired.com/entertainment/theweb/magazine/17-09/ff_craigslist
BTW...Despite my mild rant, I will continue to use Craig's List because it provides value to me and at the end of the day isn't that what is most important? Hey, maybe Craig knows what he is doing after all!
